It’s Time…for a Stylish Watch

I’ve been wearing the same watch for close to two years now. It’s nothing fancy, just a simple, classic silver Casio that goes well with anything I wear. Personally, I don’t see it as an accessory, so out of practicality I like it because it is nondescript. I have other watches as well which I fish out when I need them to ‘complete’ my look (see, that’s when watches can serve as an accessory for me!), but I thought, it’s high time for me to look for another timepiece that I can wear on a regular basis.

While browsing through Dealmates, I spotted something I liked, and it was plain enough for an easy mix-and-match with the different outfits I wear for work every day. The Casio Poptone digital watch in black is simple yet stylish:

It was so cheap, too! At only RM99, I had a new watch I could wear on a daily basis. Plus, Casio has already become a household name that everyone and their mother knows. When you hear ‘Casio’, you think: classic, versatile, durable.

I waited patiently until I could pick up the Poptone from Dealmates’ office in Mid Valley (I love going there, by the way, they’re a fun and friendly bunch!), and then started taking my customary vanity shots with it, of course.

A friend and I had a couple of drinks while playing around with my new Casio Poptone. It has the standard time, stopwatch, countdown, alarm functions, and also a ‘world time mode’ for you to check what the time it is in New York, Beijing or uhm, Guam.

If you think it’s time for a stylish watch, or for a watch in general, head over to Dealmates.com.my now!

On a side note, I think everyone should have a watch, unless you’re extremely punctual. The common habit of going by the ‘Malaysian time’ here is really annoying!

There was nothing so VERY remarkable in that; nor did Alice think it so VERY much out of the way to hear the Rabbit say to itself, ‘Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!’  - Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll

Love, light & keeping time,

Elfie Jane.

A Yo-Yo Day at the Office

One of our merchants brought a briefcase filled with yo-yos into our office for a video shoot. While waiting for the video production crew to set up, some of my coworkers decided to play with the yo-yos. I guess they wanted to feel young again. Hahaha.

Fishing on the fly

IMG_0765

Call this purchase a little bit of a whimsy- I’ve always liked fishing, since I was a little boy, following my father out into the boonies somewhere to find a quiet lake, and casting a rod into the waters in the quiet peace of the morning. I fondly think back on the one time I went seafishing with my father and my uncle, a trip where I hauled in more than my fair share of fish, but what really sticks out in my mind is that my uncle decided he would take a nap on the top of the boat, and originally asked me to wake him up after a while. However, as I was busy playing master fisherman and snagging fish from all corners of the boat, I completely forgot and by evening my uncle was as red as a freshly cooked lobster. He’s never quite let me live down that entire episode.

BUT ANYWAY, the ‘Fishing Rod in Pen Case’ sounded like something great to get for my dad, who’s still quite an avid fisher, and even though he definitely already has a good collection of rods, I thought it’d be nice for him to have something extremely portable should the need to fish suddenly take him. Yeah, not the most practical of gifts, but my father being my father, he definitely liked it.

All in all, it’s a pretty awesome deal. The rod collapses into a pen case, and extends to over 3 feet when pulled out. It also came with a practice casting weight, bobbler, three lead weights, and three fishing hooks. Of course, the casting reel is a given, but this one is very solid- it feels heavy and definitely not like it’s easily breakable. If there was a lake here in The Gardens, I would have tried, but unfortunately what we do have is the Klang River, and I’m not looking forward to pulling up a monitor lizard from there.

However, I will be harassing my father to give this rod a shot soon. Maybe I can get my uncle to tag along as well.

Food for Skin

I’ve never been a fan of organic products because well, let’s face it, going green today is sort of a luxury. Don’t get me wrong, I’d still love to try one if only the price was within my budget, so I decided to surf Dealmates and surprise, surprise, they had a whole page dedicated to going green this April. So, why not? : )

For RM27.50 (normal price RM55), I chose the Soap & Scent’s Goat Milk series combo which includes 2 soap bars (the mandarin chocolate and honey), 1 loofah and 1 rice husk soap tray. If you didn’t know them already, read about the brand here and about their scented success.

The mandarin chocolate flavor is my favourite between the two. While most handmade soaps have an overwhelming scent which sends almost everyone around you into an intoxicated state, this one doesn’t. It still smells divine and lathers richly, leaving behind a soft, delicate scent that still lingers after your shower. This product is also gentle on the skin which was a great plus considering the fact that I have sensitive skin.

* Remember to always test any beauty product you purchase on a small area on the skin.

One extraordinary thing about the loofah is that it’s actually made up of natural herbal soap chunks, including olive fruit oil, vitamin E, essential oils, fragrance oils and herbs! Now that’s what I call an absolute skin-pampering bath session.

If this flavor isn’t your cup of tea, you should check out the brand’s website for more. From apple cinnamon to seaweed and also the classic lavender, there really isn’t any reason you shouldn’t try this natural handmade soap. Here’s to going green! : )

These Heels are Made for Walkin’

Deep down inside, I’m a beach bum who wishes she could live in shorts, tees and flipflops all day long. However, I can never resist pretty bags and heels, plus my job also requires me to dress up for events once in a while. Speaking of pretty heels, one of my recent finds on DealMates was this pair of uber-gorgeous Christy Ng heels from STYLO + MYLO.

STYLO + MYLO is an innovative company that produces handcrafted & high quality shoes. Each shoe is meticulously crafted to ensure comfort & quality. STYLO + MYLO also strives to bring unique/innovative/creative designs that may be original or inspired. Each design is limited in quantity to ensure exclusivity. To learn more about them, head on over to their Facebook page.

Anyway, back to my stylish baby. She’s covered in lace and satin, and is about five inches high. Isn’t she drop dead gorgeous?

Anyway, I received an invitation to attend the reopening of Emporio Armani’s boutique in KLCC (whose guest of honour was Shu Qi, a famous Chinese actress) and my footwear of choice was of course the brand new lace and satin heels! I’m quite low-key when it comes to dresses, so I chose a simple black dress to complete my look for the night.

With such eye-catching heels, your clothes don’t have to be over-the-top. Here are some outfit suggestions to go with these shoes:

Right: A transparent white blouse and simple, scallop style shorts by October Origin. It’s a more casual daytime look.

Left: I love the asymmetrical bottom half of the dress by I Wear Sin! It’s pretty and it doesn’t take the attention away from the gorgeous lace heels.

A Quick Beauty Fix

Everyone loves pampering sessions at spas or beauty salons but unfortunately career girls don’t often find the time to make a spa appointment. Never forget though, that even if you’re busy, there’s no reason why you should ignore your skin’s needs! We girls often forget how important it is to keep our skin moisturised, especially if you’re in an air-conditioned environment most of the time (at home, in the car and in the office) – that really dries up your skin, causing it to be more sensitive and prone to wrinkles.

Okay – enough of the beauty lecture, and let’s go on to the little gem I found on Dealmates the other day:

10 pieces of Korean face masks for only RM35! Now, we all know face masks don’t come cheap, so this deal was an absolute steal I just couldn’t resist! With ingredients that can be used for any skin type, the Dermal Korean face masks came in different varieties and purposes. I got:

  1. Pearl mask
  2. Cucumber mask
  3. Red wine collagen essence mask
  4. Vitamin mask
  5. Q10 collagen essence mask
  6. Platinum collagen essence mask
  7. Pomegranate collagen essence mask
  8. Charcoal collagen essence mask
  9. White collagen essence mask
  10. Hyaluronate collagen essence mask

My first try was the Pomegranate mask to firm and moisturise my skin. It’s really easy to use, and compared to some other masks that I’ve tried before, this Dermal one sticks to my face very well and doesn’t slip off. There are also explanations and a user guide at the back in both English and Korean (don’t you just hate it when you buy imported things and its manual only comes in the foreign language?!)

I just love the cold and refreshing feeling of a mask on my face! I didn’t take any vanity shots this time because I honestly looked like that guy from ‘Silence of the Lambs’. Yeah this one:

It was a highly unattractive sight, so I shall spare you of the image ;P

Anyway, I’d really recommend getting face masks to all career girls out there. It’s a very easy and quick beauty fix you should do weekly to keep your skin hydrated. You can apply it while watching TV, reading a book, or even while you’re doing some light household chores.

What beauty fixes do you do at home? Feel free to share with me and other fans of Dealmates!

Love, light & skincare,

Elfie Jane.
